With the bye week here, and plenty of free time lets look at who will be the Lions top priority to resign for next year.
Cliff has really developed into an all around good NFL player, rather shocking considering who drafted him. He is gonna want a big contract after this year, and with Lo Jack, who is a very similar player, also playing very well behind him and the developing ‘Great” Willy Young, Cliff Avril may be the first painful decision of the Mayhew/Schwartz era.
What the fuck is this shit Jeff? He can look really good, and he can really look like shit, he’ll be 35 a few weeks into the season next year. Were supposed to have Jason Fox developing to take over but he can’t stay healthy and hasn’t shown nearly enough to be entrusted to protect the holiest of shoulders. This will be a tough decision, as bad as he can be, we have to be sure were getting at least equal talent to replace him.
This dude is fucking awesome! I wish Mayhew could have tricked him into taking a long term deal this year. If it doesn’t work out and we lose ‘Tully’ then were probably looking at moving Levy back to the middle and starting Carpenter on the outside. Not too bad, but I would really miss Tulloch.
One of the most underrated moves of the Mayhew era. This guy has been very steady, I don’t care about ball skills as long as my corners arent getting torched for 80 yard bombs. If we lose ‘Easy E’ we have Alphonso, who hasn’t been able to make it on the field and Aaron Berry who has looked pretty good as a nickel.
I know a lot of people are concerned about saving money for Calvin, but that isn’t really the case. Calvin is making over 8 million this year and 14 million next year, so yes, he is gonna get a nice raise, but it will actually only be a couple million more a year than he’s already making, his rookie contract was an already outrageous 6 year $55,500,00, his new contract wont be much more than that.
And don’t be scared that were not gonna keep all these guys, Mayhew is a genius, nobody thought that we could sign 2 linebackers and 2 corners this year. Go Lions!
